The Charme of Belle Epoque

1885 Hermann Bauer invent the press button, Daimler construct the first motorcycle with petrol engine, in Brooklyn the spectacular rope bridge was finalized and in Merano the master builder Musch & Lun (to whom Merano owe most of his luxury villas) build in Maia Alta a jewel for the family Languth. Merano was already in the prime of life. The empress Sisi ennobled with her presence the “Kurpromenade” and the imperial court is part of the regular guests. A travel guide writes: “From November to March there is nearly no evening where there isn’t an event in the gleaming illuminated halls.”
The crème de la crème meets in Merano and every second person stay over a month, the official guest list state „cavalry captain of Petersburg, retiree of Sao Paolo, businessman of New York, consul of Vienna, pharmacist of Budapest, fabricant of Berlin, Lady and Miss Ascot”. Elegant robes in every saloon, the Adria was called Austria in the glamour of the Austrian- Hungarian Emporium. 1918 Austria was out in South Tyrol and therefore the hotel changed (maybe cause of the phonetically consonance) in the Adria of Merano. In the dark years of Europe the Adria sacrificed the steel of his balcony balustrade, but the heart and the soul remained undamaged. The beautiful old trees are still alive, the lift yet invites to take place on the plush. The venetian chandelier in the saloon greets the family of the last doge, the indoor pool is still proud of his classic elegance (it was the first one of Merano) and the grand halls are meeting point for all memories of the past and today.
